Large wood balusters – Balusters, or spindles, are the vertical posts of the stair railing that provide safe passage for anyone who uses the stairs. They also occupy a prominent place in the decoration of your home, since the stairs are commonly found in a central location, very visible. Replacing the heads of a handrail is an easy task with the right tools. Acquire new balusters that match the size and width of the old bars of a warehouse or home improvement store-convert the wood. Paint or dye the bars before installing them.

Cut the current balusters in half with a jigsaw. Equip the jigsaw with a blade to cut metal, if the balusters are made of metal. Grab the bottom half of a bar and wiggle it until it loosens from the railing. Do the same with the upper half. Repeat this procedure for all balusters.
